Running Warrior!!!

I like how I feel the need to be accountable when I put something in writing on my blog…regardless of how few people may pay attention! Two weeks ago I blogged about my 3 X 3 scheme, and looking back at my training schedule (Runlogger on Facebook) I’m actually in my fourth week of sticking to it! Werd!

This feels really good – it’s a totally do-able amount of running for me. I’ve often goofed up and slept in or just didn’t feel like running on rising, and it’s put me in situation where I’ve had to 3 run days in a row…but I seem to be recovering well enough, so no reason to sweat it.

So all is well, yet I’m having trouble having happy thoughts about long runs? The longest I’ve done since the Half Marathon in April is 6 miles (2 weeks ago), and that was a great run! So why the worry? I need to use the mind over matter theory here.

First, I’ll load up my iPod with some kickin’ tunes, as it was the iPod that made the 6 miles go so well. Second, I’m going to apply a CS Lewis theory to the situation - I’m going to fake it ‘til I make it! I think Lewis said something more like: if you don’t love someone, then act like you do. Eventually the feelings will catch up with your actions. I’m going to act like I love getting up early on Saturday mornings to run for hours! There is something very appealing about it…especially when it’s over! But I’ll turn my thoughts to the act of running – the blood circulating, oxygen flowing, the toxins pushing out, strength and determination increasing. It’s a constant battle, but every day I get out there a little part of the war is won!

Hey! Well, I pumped myself up enough to have a great 8 mile run on Saturday. This morning you were up and at it alone! I still have trouble sometimes differentiating between the "snooze" and "off" buttons on my alarm clock! Oops! I'll be out there tomorrow though.
Thanks for the prompting Kat - I'll try to post an update tomorrow!
