Olympian dreams?!

In 1988 my parents took us out of school for part of the day to see the olympic torch pass through our town with one of 7,342 torchbearers selected to run 18,000 kms across the country to bring the torch to it's final destination in Calgary! The day left a lasting impression on me. In fact the 1988 Olymics left a lasting impression - I remember watching a lot of the coverage and feeling absolutely inspired...too bad I never acted on it back then!

The Winter Olympics are coming back to Canada in 2010, and today the announcement was made that "the cross-country torch relay leading up to the winter Games will be the longest such in-country relay in Olympic history"! Sweet! They are expecting to enlist 12,000 torchbearers...and I want to be one! What their criteria is for selection, I have no idea - so how you make your "resume" stand out amongst the millions they are expecting is also a mystery to me. All I can do is keep my ear to the ground and get my application in as early as they allow them. This is a great thing that the Olympic Committee organizes that spreads the excitement of the games - the journey will last 100 days! What a great way for an average chick like me to live out her "Olympic dreams"!
